The Pond Area
This area has a natural pool and houses the three drakes including Edward. We have plans to make this area more accessible in the summer so that most of the residents can use it.
Here are the residents with their names and a little bit about them.
Edward
Edward is the one who more or less started the whole thing off. He was an elderly chap when he arrived but we soon realised his zest for life was not diminished.
The story goes that he was part of a flock that was abandoned into the wild during the winter with around 50 others. As they were unable to fend for themselves, most of the flock died with several being caught in the ice when the loch froze.
We belive that Edward was the only survivor when he was released from the ice and cared for for many years until he came to us.
He now shows no signs of his ordeal and lives happlily with Bob and Nipper.
Bob
Bob was originally named Emerald but we changed that to Bob as it is what he constantly does, 'bob up and down'. We think he's around four years old and has been with us for nearly two years. He and Nipper came to us at the same time and we thought they would make great company for Edward.
We think both Bob and Nipper have the Cayuga and Black Swedish in their genes which gives them a fabulous iridescent plumage and Bob's white chest.
Nipper
Nipper is the youngest, being around three years old but he wasn't doing all that well to start with. He was bullied by Edward for some time but we managed to build him up and now he can look after himself. The three of them get along fine now and have a great spot to live in. They can be seen swimming around our mini loch whenever the pond is flooded.
