The Main Compound

This is one of the larger compounds and houses most of our female residents. All the ducks here are white, (unless they find some mud!) and are from various sources, though five of them came from the same place.
Here are the residents with their names and a little bit about them.

Pearl
Pearl is most definitely the queen of the flock and though she is the eldest and is not too great on her legs, when she shouts, they all come running. She has a great deal of the Pekin breed in her, so she is quite a heavy bird but not quite as large as pure bred Pekin ducks. When she arrived, we were told she was a drake because she has the usually 'male' curl on her tail, she is most cetainly not a boy though! Since she has slowed down, some of the others have tried to take over but Pearly stands no nonsense and proves it by making a lot of noise. The others soon bow down to her insistance and peace is soon restored.

Nixie
Nixie is another large bird with a similar kind of cross breeding as Pearl but with more Aylesbury than Pekin. Nixie gained her name as she loves swimming in the paddling pool, Nixie is a Germanic name for a Water spirit, so we thought it was quite apt for her. She is quite a shy character and is usually found on her own. She, like all of this flock love the water though, and she soon takes over the pool at bath time.

Bodicea
Bodicea is one of girls that have more American Pekin in their genes as she has a bright orange bill and legs. She can also be a loner like Nixie and likes her own space but still gets on fine with the others.

Tango
Tango has only got her name more recently, as when she is clean (which is rare!) she has a bright orange bill and legs. The problem is, like some of the others, she loves mud and is rarely clean enough to see her lovely colours. She is another in the flock with American Pekin in her breeding, so she is large and is the main threat to Pearl's dominance though she is not agressive, just noisy. She never makes a serious attempt to take charge and soon bores of the conflict to look for something to forage.

Alice
Alice is another with some Aylesbury in her breeding but in this case, she is smaller being the second smallest in the flock. She spends most of ther time with Tango though she is quite sociable and stays close to the others most of the time. She is one of the quietest in the flock and is very laid back only pushing to the front at feeding time.

Amelia
Being the smallest of the flock, Amelia tends to make up for her size by being the noisiest and most forward. She too loves mud and quite often has more black on her than white. Luckily she also loves water, so she manages to pretty herself up on occasions. She is much smaller than the others and though there may be some Aylesbury in her background, she probably has Call Duck (noisy!) or Appleyard in there too. She is full of character and can be spotted from a distance due to her strange waddle. She is tough too as she never lets the larger ducks boss her about. Amelia will try any new food before anyone else, she is always at the front of the dinner queue.
Though she was not with this flock from the begining, she has certainly become an important member of the team now.
